In Grandpa’s Footsteps

Iver Henningsen on the Eastern Front

20 June – 10 August, 2006

Why do we want to find Grandfathers Footsteps in Lithuania?
Iver Henningsen became a sanitarian soldier (Red Cross) on the Eastern Front and participated in the fightings in 1915 both near Augostowo, Polen and through Lithuanian from Marijampolė to Zarazai. He wrote more than 150 letters and made 106 drawings, which he sent back to his family in the town Hadersleben, near the Danish Border.

With this letters and drawings in our hands and minds our small group we want to walk and drive the same route as Iver Henningsen did in Poland and Lithuanian to meet the landscapes and especially the followers of the people he met in 1915.

It will be a journey in the past, but also a journey into a part of the new Europe, which not many Danish people have knowledge of.
